Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Isn't that fun?
Your headmaster is the all powerful villain All For One, and he's so happy to see you here.
Sit down, relax, and prepare for the most grueling, horrifying weeks of your entire life... assuming you'll make it out alive to begin with.
(lovingly ripped from visitants' faq)
What is MVA?
MVA or My Villain Academy is a community-based game, with daily threading and tags taking place in a weekly mod-posted log. Players are both welcome and encouraged to put up their own logs for special events (parties, etc). Every Friday, a murder will be committed, and a investigation log will be posted at 12 PM PST/PDT to allow players to investigate these deaths. On Saturday, a trial log will be posted at the same time as the investigation. Should this go well, an execution will occur for the voted culprit on either Saturday night or Sunday morning, depending how long the trial went.
How long will the game last?
The game will last around two months.
OOC Day = 1 IC Day. Threads that are posted Monday take place on Monday, and the like.
When are reserves/apps opening/what are important dates?
TDM was posted on June 1st.
Reserves will open on September 1st.
Apps are due by September 13th, giving players enough time to think over Quirks and Villain Names.
The game shall open on September 16th, with an Intro Log posted on that day.
From there, there will be a Peace Week. The first week will have no murder happening, but every week afterwards will have an incentive posted on Tuesday, Investigation posted on Friday, and the trial on Saturday. The game will last until August 31st, give or take depending on how the game's going by then.
Is there a character cap?
We have a maximum of 35 characters, and a minimum of 20. One character per player. 5 characters per canon.
Sounds great! How do I app?
You'll need to post a reserve when they go up, and you will need an invite. When reserves open, they will remain open until we hit 35 reserves or until the reserve period is up (they will close in a week). Reserves are mandatory, and a reserve link will need to be provided in your application. One reserve per comment, and you can change your reserve before you fill out the app, provided you do so before submitting it.
Should you be unable to make it to reserves at the time they open, proxy reserves (i.e. reserves posted for another player) are allowed. In this case, the player being reserved for has 24 hours to confirm their reserve by replying to it. If they do not comment by this time, the reserve will be discarded. (We also ask that a player only post one proxy reserve, as a common courtesy).
There will be no app/reserve challenges accepted. MVA operates on a first-come first-serve basis. The player who first put in a reserve for a character/canon will be entitled to it. If this occurs, the mod will ask the second player if they'd like to change their reserve.
For disclaimer: anyone on my plurklist is automatically invited, and you can also send an invite to another friend as well. If you've been invited by someone, just specify in your reserve!
Who can I app?
Characters from all canons are acceptable. There is absolutely no age cap, but if a character is under the age of 13 I ask that you fill out the Maturity Clause section of your app, telling me why they'd be able to handle a Murdergame. We don't want five year olds who'd have to be babied the entire time in our game, but murderous nine year olds (looking at you, Dangan Ronpa AE) are absolutely allowed.
We accept OCS, customizable protags, and DND characters. However, we do not accept canon ocs. So unfortunately, you cannot app your BNHA oc to this game (but trust me, that's a project I'll be working on after MVA.)
Any other character limitations?
I ask that characters have the ability to communicate effectively and have a degree of sentience. As trials and investigations have a hallmark of being based around fast-paced communication, I ask that your character be able to quickly communicate with each other, through whatever means they can.
Large characters are allowed, characters who aren't human are allowed, small characters are allowed as well. Characters with magic/superpowers are acceptable, but will have their abilities.. tampered with, shall we say.
Ghosts are allowed, but will be put in a living body so they'd be able to be murdered again. Undertale characters are allowed, since they're able to be killed even if it's not the most convenient way. Other characters who don't have physical bodies will be given physical bodies, and if they're not human you may choose to humanize them or just make their body fleshy. Bill Cipher can be the hot bishounen of your dreams or a triangle with guts.
Ew.
Wait, did you say our powers will be tampered with? What do you mean
Calm down, my friend. We'll get there in due time.
What's the activity like?
Activity checks are done weekly after every trial, and consist of one thread with five comments from you. Threads probably shouldn't be with the same character every week, though. Failing activity will cause your character to be punished in one way, shape, or form - please let us know if there will be any issues and we'll try to work something out!
What if I need to drop out of the game early?
I understand that sometimes, it just Be Like That. If you have to drop out early, please let me know via a pp or dm over discord so we can discuss what to do with your character from then on! You most likely will not be death-rolled, but there are other fun ways to die in this game! :)
...So how about that murder?
On Sunday, death-rolls will take place in order to determine who will be a part of the murder that week. Two (or more??) players will be contacted, and should both agree, they will have a week to plan for the ghastly deeds that will occur. If players volunteer to be murdered ahead of time or specify this on their app, we will do our best to schedule you, and you may be contacted in advance.
On Tuesday, the classmates will gather in the foyer and an incentive shall be announced. This incentive shall be decided by the players conducting the murder, and may not actually have anything to do with the murder itself. Who knows? This will not apply during the first week.
On Friday, one or more bodies will be discovered. This will usually take place at 12PM PST/PDT. Over the next 24 hours, mods will lead the students in a search for clues that were laid out by the players involved in the case. There will be a toplevel for Friday previously frozen, that will be unlocked once all clues are found. Characters are encouraged to talk to each other about the murder, and try to figure out Who Done It so they have an idea what kind of accusations to be throwing around on Saturday. This is a scapegoat game, after all. The trials won't be easy.
On Saturday, a trial will be held. During the trial, the students shall discuss their clues and attempt to figure out who committed the crime. At the end of the trial, or whenever your host deems it necessary, a vote shall be called where players input who they believe committed this crime. Majority rules here.
As I've mentioned before, this is a scapegoat game. What that means is players/characters can try to pin their murder on a different person, and it will not result in a mass endgame if they vote incorrectly. In fact, they don't have to vote at all if they don't want to. There's no punishment if you decide to let a murderer wander around freely with you but... do you really want to sleep in the same room as someone like that?
There's also a new mechanic that's going to be in place-- student executions. Rather than there being a grandiose execution specifically tailored to the guilty party, characters will be rolled to execute them by their own hands. Whether it be with the use of their Quirk, snapping their neck, taking the nearest sharp object and stabbing them... it's up to how the character would react and preform it ICly. This is where the mass punishment actually resides. If a character refuses to execute after the votes have been tallied and they've been chosen by your lovely headmaster, everyone will die. However, characters can volunteer even if someone's been chosen or they can even choose to execute themselves if they're the (voted) guilty party. Your headmaster is a cruel, awful person but he's flexible.
There will be a section on your application to opt out of being rolled to perform an execution. If you are uncomfortable with the idea of it, or your character would be broken beyond repair having to kill one of their dear friends, you can opt our and they will not be a consideration.
What happens if my character tries to leave?
Unfortunately... even though the school grounds are quite large, there's a force field around it preventing anyone from leaving. It's like a dome made of the world's strongest glass, unable to be broken even if everyone in class used their Quirks against it.
Is there any way to get items from home?
Why, of course. After every successful murder and execution (the "and" is the important part), your kindhearted headmaster will throw you all a wonderful party with presents addressed to you, just waiting to be opened. Inside will be one of the ten items you've put on your applications, no bonus AC required.
However, there is a mechanic that involves bonus AC. If your character is tired of the stale, dry food or needs a new warm blanket, they can request it from their headmaster. If he thinks you deserve a little extra somethin' somethin', you'll find it at your door the next day. AKA: At the end of each week, if you provide two more threads with five comments from your character, you may put in a request for any item you can think of provided its not from home. And you can put in as many of these at a time as you want, or use threads from the previous weeks if you want to save up for fourty items at a time. You mad man.
If my character dies, can I still play in-game?
Yes.. and no. There will be a deadland for them to mess around in, with spectating allowed but I unfortunately do not have a plot for deadland. I am just one person and cannot provide events for both at the same time, however, if you are active in deadland you will be able to impact endgame severely. So keep that in mind, if you'd like your dead character to have a hand in how everything ends. (Of course, the survivors will have a hand in it as well. Don't think you have to die just to be able to participate or effect how things will go.)
Is there a way to bring my dead character back to life?
Unfortunately, no. Death is permanent, and your character will remain dead after the game ends. Please keep this in mind when you app. There are no golden ends where everyone is revived, here.
So what about those "tampered powers" already? What are "Quirks"? And did I hear something about "Villain names"?
Ah, right. I almost forgot.
"Quirks" is just a fun way of saying "Superpowers". Each character will be given their own unique Quirk by your kind and loving headmaster, and if your character already had super powers or even a Quirk if they're from the BNHA franchise, they will be removed and replaced.
That's right. That nice super speed power you had there? Well... now you have the ability to turn into slime. Oh, you used to shoot explosions from the palms of your hands? Well have fun with the ability to scream in frequencies so high that cement walls can shatter.
Of course those are just examples, but this is where the fun part really begins. You can think of any super power you want, but there are a few limitations. Characters can only have one Quirk, but even one Quirk can be used in many different ways. They usually have some kind of exploitable weakness as well-- even the most powerful supervillains can be caught off guard you know! For example, Bakugo Katsuki has the ability to create explosions out of the palms of his hands, hence his Quirk just being called "Explosion." But to get in the nitty-gritty about his Quirk-- his palms sweat out nitroglycerine and he can ignite it willingly, able to make small or huge explosions depending on the amount of "sweat" he produces. His weakness? If he makes explosions that are too large, or uses too many over his limit, the tendons in his arms start ripping causing him immense pain. But, when push comes to shove, his will is strong enough that he can push past that pain and overcome any situation that comes his way.
Can you?
This is why I've given plenty of time to get applications in. Twoish weeks so you can think about a Quirk to give your character, think of the mechanics behind it how it fits their personality, think of weaknesses and a catchy name for it. And also "Villain names." We're at this school to become world-class villains, after all. So make up something ridiculous for your character to be called by All For One for the rest of the duration of the game.
Examples are: Twice, Spinner, Stain, BloodThirsty ManSlaughter, King Explosion Murder.. wait. That's Bakugo's Hero name.
You also, if you'd fancy, can design cheesy villain costumes for your character as well though they're not mandatory. If you design one, your character will find it in a box with their villain name stamped on in front of their door. If not.. maybe they'll get a cape for compensation.
And lastly, if you're unable to come up with a Quirk on your own you can simply state on your application that you'd like me to come up with one instead, and I'll try to make up something based on personality traits and abilities/skills/talents your character has.
1 - Code of Conduct
While murdergames have a degree of competitiveness, we ask that you maintain a degree of respectful conduct towards your fellow players. Believe me, we super appreciate the occasional tease, but please don't cross the border into antagonism. Our doors are always open if you have a problem with another player.
We stress that code of conduct also extends to our Discord chat. We recognize that disagreements may be had between players and misunderstandings happen, but we ask you to treat things in a civil manner and don’t make people uncomfortable.
This is also a good place to mention that your character is likely going to die, and we ask that you come into the game prepared to play with that possibility. There are only a small handful of characters that survive each round. As a result, please do not come into the game with the mindset/attitude of trying to "win", if that makes sense. To that end, please don't godmod.
2 - Sensitive Subjects
In that same vein, we ask that you please keep an eye on what you're saying to other players ICly. It's a murdergame, and we love talking about some fucked-up shit! If that content is warned for and players treat it with mature attitudes, you should be good to go. However, making light of any sort of triggering subject (rape, abuse, etc) could be grounds to being ejected from the game.
3 - Role Spoilers
If your character has been given a role in the game, please keep it a secret from your fellow players! This includes victims, culprits, moles and more. Everything will come to light eventually.
4 - Canon Spoilers
Due to the nature of murdergames, major spoilers from each character's canon will likely come into play, and players are not required to warn for them.
5 - Anything else?
If you have any questions, please ask them down below! You can also contact your mod at zombae on plurk, or hit me up on Discord.
